Denzil, who resides in Johannesburg, has worked extensively as a journalist in both radio and television. He started out as a journalist in 1990 at the SABC as a political reporter - primarily on the pre-1994 discussions between the former government and the ANC. He was also at the World Trade Centre during all the CODESA discussions around South Africa’s first negotiated settlement – following the events until the historic elections in 1994 – and formed part of the first Parliamentary Team to broadcast the transition from apartheid to democracy. He climbed that ranks at the SABC and held the position of Political Editor before he moved on to work in government in 2006.

Denzil also worked in the Presidency – and more particularly in the Private Office of the Deputy President of the country – holding the positions of Communications Manager - ASGISA (accelerated and shared growth initiative of South Africa), and then that of Spokesperson to the Deputy President of South Africa. He held the position of Spokesperson for both deputy presidents, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and Baleka Mbete.

As a journalist, he travelled the world - covering conflicts in countries like Haiti; Zimbabwe; the DRC; Nigeria; Rwanda; and Burundi. Not one to shy away from any story – no matter where or how dangerous - Denzil has broken numerous stories as a political journalist, many of which made international impact.

A strong writer of analytical articles that concern the South African political scene, Denzil Taylor is regarded by the industry and his peers as a leading journalist in his field.

Joining Jacaranda 94.2 is part of his paradigm shift to working with young, talented journalists in creating cutting edge news stories. This is well complemented by his involvement with the Journalism School at the University of Pretoria, where he lectures on radio broadcasting techniques.

Why has he joined Jacaranda 94.2? “I was looking for a new, exciting challenge. The news room is small but is doing great things. I want to grow the news component at Jacaranda 94.2 into an important; competitive; and relevant unit that is taken seriously by people in the media business. The team at Jacaranda 94.2 operates as a family – and they are absolutely focused on the business of broadcasting and making a positive difference to the community. Alan Khan, Jacaranda 94.2’s CEO, says: “Denzil brings a strong journalism pedigree to our newsroom and I am confident that he will work very well with our talented team of journalists.
