In the past few weeks the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens Concert series has seen thousands of people packing their picnic gear and heading off to see great South African acts on Sunday afternoons in the great natural setting of the botanical gardens.

Ses snare is the next South African act to headline the series. This incredibly talented group of performers will be entertaining Pretoria-fans on Sunday, 28 August when they take to the stage at the Pretoria National Botanical Garden as part of the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens Concert series. The name “Ses Snare” (the direct translation from Afrikaans being “Six Strings”) alludes to the fact that the six band members are all accomplished singers and guitarists.

Old Mutual Music in the Gardens Concert series presents live concerts every two weeks throughout the winter season at the Pretoria National Botanical Garden and is an extension of their sponsorship of the legendary Kirstenbosch Music Series in Cape Town. All proceeds from the performances go to The Pretoria National Botanical Garden for its upkeep.

The Ses Snare-performance takes place in the middle of the natural beauty of the botanical gardens. Fans are encouraged to come early, bring picnic chairs and blankets and spend the day in natural splendour. With a restaurant in the gardens and alcohol on sale plus a great supervised kiddies area this is a must-see opportunity to see Ses Snare live in a natural setting. “We are looking forward to this amazing opportunity – not only do we get to perform in a beautiful natural setting, but we also have the chance to make a contribution to greening our country,” said Mathys Roets of Ses Snare.

The individual members of the band will each take a turn to shine on stage with numbers ranging from covers of well-loved standards to original compositions in English and Afrikaans. Fans can expect covers of great hits including, J.J. Cale’s ‘Call Me The Breeze’, Dire Straits’ ‘Sultans of Swing’ and of course, The Traveling Wilbury’s ‘Handle Me With Care’. Other highlights include a number of original songs by the members of Ses Snare.

There are also many other fascinating opportunities to experience at The Pretoria National Botanical Garden. Visitors can walk along the grasslands area of the garden in the hope of spotting some of the wildlife that inhabit the area – many species, such as the Slender Mongoose, Scrub Hare and Common Duiker often visit the natural grassland for food or for shelter and visitors often catch a glimpse of them in the late afternoon and evening. The garden is also home to a plethora of bird species and visitors might even be lucky enough to see a spotted-necked otter around the wetland area.
