SA 4X4 (Monitored)
Media 39
(Product: Passenger Vehicles)
SA4x4 started in 1991, and was the first magazine of its kind in South Africa. It is published by Godfrey Castle, who is also the publisher of Caravan and Outdoor Life. SA4x4 started off as a bi-monthly publication under two editors: Cedric Wright (who has since retired), and Derek Lawley (current publisher of sister publication Leisure Boating).
Times have changed over the years, and today SA4x4 is a monthly title bringing out 12 issues per year under the editorship of Neil Harrison. According to the Jan-Jun 2005 ABC figures, the magazine’s circulation is 14 503 – a figure 15.5% higher than the previous reported period.
The readership figures (AMPS 2005) are just as impressive at 150 000, up 6.4% on the previous period. Just over 50% of the publication’s readers are LSM 9-10, 34% are in the 25 - 34 age group and a further 34% in the 35 - 49 age group. This is a very powerful target market – people who are active 4x4 users and who can afford the equipment and vehicles. A full page full colour insertion is R11 213 (excl VAT).
