Rainbow FM is a Christian-based community radio station broadcasting out of its studios in Florida, Roodepoort.
Rainbow FM has been in existence since 1996 and its FM broadcast reaches most parts of Johannesburg; Midrand; and parts of Pretoria while its audio streaming facility enables it to reach any part of the world. Rainbow FM runs a number of value added services for listeners and advertisers, namely: a website, a studio web cam; online streaming; and an email marketing list. It broadcasts twelve hours a day from 18:00 to 06:00 from Monday to Friday, and on weekends from 12:00 to 24:00.
The station targets Christian families from all communities in the West and South West Rand areas of Gauteng and broadcasts in: English (79%); Zulu (13%); Afrikaans (5%); and other languages such as Sotho; Pedi; and Venda (3%).
Its format consists of talk and gospel music, with talk covering current local events; stories of people's lives; church events; interviews with youth and youth groups; stories for children, and health programmes. Music played covers a wide variety of gospel, with 50% local content.
