National Geographic to air Costa Concordia Disaster documentary
Media 24
National Geographic Channel one-hour documentary Costa Concordia Disaster will show the drama of the sunken cruise ship pieced together from survivor testimony, as well as camera and mobile phone footage.
In an exclusive, National Geographic Channel will take viewers on the passage to death and drama on high-seas when the Costa Concordia sunk off the coast of Italy on 13 of January this year.
Costa Concordia Disaster, a one-hour special on the sinking of the Concordia cruise ship off the coast of Isola del Giglio, Italy, premieres on Wednesday, 29 February at 22:00 on National Geographic Channel, DStv channel 260.
Suspense-filled, the documentary pieces together survivor testimony along with footage taken during the ship’s evacuation, using footage from images captured on cameras and mobile phones during the journey and in the dramatic and hectic hours as the ship went down.
The ordeal, witnessed firsthand by an astonishing eight South Africans, will provide insight into what is arguably the most interesting non-economic story to come out of Europe this year. Footage and commentary from passengers, rescuers and others on-ground provide a vital record of the sinking from a firsthand perspective, and insight into what exactly went wrong.
National Geographic Channel looks exclusively at how a holiday for thousands turned into a time of horror. While media reports have focused on the role of the captain during the sinking of the ship, the documentary tackles the last moments of survivors and those who did not make it, in their own words and images, obtained in the final moments of the Costa Concordia.
