The 2013/2014 season kicks off on Sunday, 24 November and runs through to Sunday, 6 April 2014 and features something for everyone. With a line-up that promises the hottest artists on the coolest stage in Cape Town, prepare to spend every Sunday winding down at this iconic garden, which is in its Centenary year.

Says Frank Brooks, Sponsorship manager for Old Mutual: “This season marks the sixth year of a successful partnership between Old Mutual and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. These concerts provide an opportunity for established as well as up and coming artists to entertain the audience in one of the most beautiful venues in the world. The Old Mutual Music in the Gardens series extends to Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban and the Kirstenbosch series forms the back bone of the Old Mutual commitment to providing artists with the platform to do great things.”

The Kirstenbosch stage is a favourite with many of the popular bands that are invited back to play in the Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concerts. This season we welcome back the Parlotones, Prime Circle, Freshlyground, Lira, Civil Twilight, Mia Casa and many more, with Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi being new to the schedule.

Prime Circle will be kicking off the series on Sunday, 24 November. Fans will be listening out for hits such as Hello, Out of this Place, She Always Get What She Wants, All I Need and Consider Me.

On Sunday, 1 December, Jack Parow, Francois Van Coke and Pierre Greeff take to the stage. Afrikaans rapper Jack Parow recently released his third double album, Nag van die Lang Pette and will be revealing his more romantic side with new acoustic songs. Rest assured he’ll be showcasing his infamous dangerous side as well with pumping new beats. He’ll also perform some classics with guests Francois Van Coke, Pierre Greeff, PH Phat and others.

Sunday, 8 December is the turn of Tailor, newcomer Matthew Mole and Nahkane Toure. Tailor’s music is difficult to categorise. Her sound is a mix of modern folk, blues, rock, pop and soul. Capetonian Matthew Mole recently hit the headlines when his album, The Home We Built, made him the first South African to enter the iTunes Album Charts at number one. His style has been described as folk with a slight electronica influence and Mole has been quoted as being all about “happy guitar rhythms, thousands of vocal harmonies and random percussion”. Johannesburg musician, singer and songwriter, Nahkane Toure’s music style spans over songs rooted in African indigenous music and indie rock and his influences are as diverse as Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell and Radiohead.

Who better to get one into the festive spirit than South African favourites Mango Groove who appear on Sunday, 22 December. Their music is pure South African Pop with Marabi and Kwela influences. Lead singer Claire Johnston will have everyone singing to Move Up, Dance Sum More, Special Star, Nice to See You and many more. This is a feel good concert that will have people on their feet and screaming for more.

Heading for the New Year and newcomer to the Kirstenbosch stage Oliver Mtukudzi will treat music lovers to his brand of music on Sunday, 29 December. Known to his fans as 'Tuku', his unique voice is one of the most recognised voices to emerge from Zimbabwe. Singing in Shona, Ndebele and English, he incorporates elements of different music traditions, giving his music a distinctive style. His career spans more than 20 years and 40 original albums, most of them best-sellers, but it’s his dedication to the live music scene in Zimbabwe and more recently in South Africa that has earned him a place in people’s hearts.

In 2014, South Africa and Kirstenbosch welcomes back the Parlotones on Sunday, 5 January. Visiting South Africa from their base in Los Angeles, this multi-platinum-selling and award-winning band recently recorded their new studio album Stand Like Giants and will perform tracks from the album as well as their long list of hits from earlier albums. Book early as this concert will sell out.

Freshlyground and Civil Twilight return in February and Mia Casa and Lira in March.
