The prizewinners in attendance received certificates and vouchers which recognised them for their contribution to the arts and will further encourage not only them, but many others in the years to come to work towards their dreams of making the arts a career.

This award ceremony comes from the culmination of submissions of entries from people from the South Coast, whose skills and ingenuity in the creative fields of video, music and photography came together. It was a proud showcasing of the high levels of creative genius in the area, which up until now, has not had a platform to exhibit and be recognized.

Says Ivan Naidoo, deputy chair of the AFVF, "The AFVF plans to develop the Arts on the South Coast in exciting and innovative ways. We have a vision that the South Coast will grow film-makers, musicians and artists from all sectors that will make us proud all over the world. We see much of that development right here on the South Coast, and as the Grahamstown Festival does in the Eastern Cape, we can attract people from all around the country to visit us. Our small beginning in the form of the AFVF Contest and awards dinner is a step in that direction."

"We have already worked with the communities and young learners from schools. Recently we held a ceremony at the South Coast Mall honoring the pupils from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions with specific focus on development in songwriting, jewelry design, fine arts and video production," added Naidoo.
