Well-known South African actors Donnalee Roberts, Rolanda Marais, Armand Aucamp and Jacques Bessenger as well as newcomers Christia Visser, Edwin van Jaarsveld, Luan Jacobs, Miles Petzer and a few others worked together with The Film Factory and gave a whole new look to this iconic TV series.
The story of this hit series, which made viewer records shatter during 1987, is being told again under the tutelage of the sharp young director, Quentin Krog.
The story still centres on a journalist who reveals the truth behind the disappearance of a popular writer. At first, being instructed to write a story about the disappearance of this writer had seemed like a mundane assignment, but then the search starts taking several twists and turns and unfolds as one of the biggest of her career.
Krog has already been part of many of South Africa’s most well-known film, television and theatre projects. His most recent acting rolls were in
Blitzpatrollie, as well as a variety of kykNet drama series’ including
Donkerland,
Vloeksteen and
Boland Moorde, as well as
Swartwater (SABC). He also featured in the kykNet short film, Buurtwag. His most recent work as director was for the television series Sterlopers.
Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling is also remembered for the hit songs,
Voshaarnooi (written by Louis van Rensburg) and
Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling (written by Richard van der Westhuizen). Van Rensburg and Van der Westhuizen worked together on the soundtrack for the series and were rewarded with a gold status.
Now, in 2015, these hits are given new life by Joshua na die Reën and Die Heuwels Fantasties. Joshua na die Reën, with his fresh and unique sound, is responsible for the new version of
Voshaarnooi, while Die Heuwels Fantasties give their own superb sound to
Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling.
Voshaarnooi’s single hit radio stations on Thursday, 29 January and will be followed by the exclusive release of the music video on
Jukebox kykNET, channel 146 on DStv on Saturday, 21 February.
Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling’s single will be released during February with the music video following in March.
“When
Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling was shown on TV, I was still a toddler, but the interest of our parents in the series flowed over to us. I vaguely remember what the story was about, but what I remember most is the timeless music that made the series unique. It is an honour and privilege that the team behind
Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling gave me the chance to sing
Voshaarnooi,” says Joshua na die Reën
“
Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling is a classic. It is a song that we all know. It is an honour to be given the chance to try something like this. I wonder what Richard is going to say,” says Hunter Kennedy of Die Heuwels Fantasties.
Ballade vir ’n Enkeling is a romantic detective story and will give new life to the nostalgia of the 80s, but will draw in the new generation.
The story and screenplay was written by Leon van Nierop and the movie is produced by Danie Bester of The Film Factory with cinematographer Tom Marais behind the cameras.
The novel, which was also written by Leon van Nierop and published by Tafelberg Uitgewers, has been on the shelves since August 2014.
Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling will be released by Ster Kinekor Entertainment on Friday, 20 March on the big screen.
