The first judge to be announced for The Voice SA was Lira. The news broke just after 07:30 on Monday, 28 September on East Coast Radio’s breakfast show.
"We're beyond excited to have Lira on board for the local version of this worldwide smash hit," says M-Net's head of publicity, Lani Lombard. "We all know that Lira is the epitome of elegance and raw talent, so the rest of the coaches are in for some stiff competition! Lira has established herself as a remarkable cross-over artist with a pitch-perfect sound and we believe that people will be flocking to the auditions for the opportunity to be coached by her."
Bobby van Jaarsveld was the second judge to be announced, with his announcement being made just after 08:00 on Jacaranda 94.2’s Complimentary Breakfast.
Lombard says; "Bobby is currently one of the coolest and most popular singers in the country and his catchy tunes have clinched numerous prestigious accolades, including SAMA, Ghoema, Vonk, Huisgenoot Tempo and MK awards. Bobby is also a driven, hard worker with boundless energy and his great insight into the music industry will undoubtedly stand the members of his team in good stead."
The baton to announce the third coach was handed over to KFM in Cape Town. The station's breakfast team told listeners that Van Jaarsveld and Lira will be joined by Karen Zoid.
"Karen is one of the most influential musos in the country - a perfect fit for The Voice SA, in which the coaches hone the performing skills of up-and-coming singers," says Lombard. "We're thrilled that this local rock icon has agreed to be part of the show. She's renowned for her groundbreaking work, honest opinions and incredible ability to tap into the Zeitgeist. You can rest assured that #TeamKaren will up the ante and keep the other teams on their toes."
Algoa FM followed suit to confirm that the frontman of The Parlotones, Kahn Morbee, will occupy the fourth red chair in the local version of the popular show.
“Khan's distinct and distinguished vocal ability made him an obvious choice to lead a team on The Voice SA," says Lombard. "We couldn't have asked for a better line-up of coaches. They are all esteemed artists in their own right, representing a variety of music genres and they're adamant in ensuring that someone from their team finally nabs the title of The Voice SA. Unlike many other singing competitions, the rivalry between the coaches forms an integral part of the show. We can't wait to see how they will try to outperform each other with their witty banter and use their skills to shape their performers into superstars."
