Soweto TV station manager Wandi Nzimande says the show has been on air for only eight weeks but has created a buzz and interest among the viewers in Soweto and across the nation. In the short timeframe (since launch) Modise has hosted a variety of influential guests including the Premier of Gauteng David Makhura, EFF leader Julius Malema, the colourful Khabonina Qubeka and Khanyi Mbau as well as a host of other prominent South Africans.

“The show has been a phenomenal success and it happens at a time when we are currently revamping our programming, so we are happy to have a flagship show of this nature on our channel,” says Nzimande.

Modise adds: “I am thrilled to be part of SowetoTV line-up as the station’s vision is in line with personal mission to help advance our national aspirations, to help make a difference in our communities and definitely to share my professional experience with my younger colleagues at SowetoTV.”

Modise is a veteran broadcaster with extensive experience of talk shows and current affairs who has worked for a variety of leading TV and radio stations in South Africa. Currently he presents the breakfast show on the talk station Power FM and contributes to the business website BIZNEWS.com. He has also had stints with the BBC and the US National Public Radio and is a celebrated media personality and recipient of a variety of media and public service awards in South Africa and the Jaime Brunet Human Rights Award in Spain.

Modise lists among his highlights the participation in the debate between former Presidents Nelson Mandela and FW de Klerk that was broadcast to a global audience of 800 million viewers.

Chairperson of Soweto TV, Meshack Mosiya says the new development will help grow and diversify the channel’s strong three million audience and has already generated interest from other partners.

Mosiya says the channel has received enquiries from companies and sponsors keen to participate in the show and will be making announcements soon. He particularly singled out Fatima Vawda, founder of 27four Investment Managers for being the first to forge a long-term relationship with the show. Vawda says her company is pleased to have a platform that is aimed at serving people and will help empower the community of Soweto and elsewhere with economic and financial literacy.

Tonight With Tim Modise will air on Soweto TV free to air in Gauteng and DStv, channel 251 at 19:30, Mondays to Thursdays starting on Monday, 1 February.
