SSP says that to date, it has touched the lives of more than 1.15 million children and invites individuals to help reach even more.
From midnight on Tuesday, 18 July, South Africans will get to share their love with children from rural areas by having the option to purchase a Virtual Santa Shoebox from OneDayOnly.co.za.
This virtual voucher, valued at R450, will ensure all eight required items:
- toothpaste
- a toothbrush
- soap
- a washcloth
- sweets
- educational supplies
- a toy, and
- a PEP voucher for the child to choose their own outfit of clothing.
The items are packed into a printed shoebox along with extra items like school socks and books.
"The basic items really are essential to these vulnerable children who often go without," says SSP CEO Deb Zelezniak.
To reach even more children this December, OneDayOnly.co.za will be matching the total number of Virtual Santa Shoeboxes bought on the site.
The company's brand and campaign manager Jonathan Spencer says, "We are proud of our joint commitment to making a positive difference in South Africa and more importantly, we are excited to bring smiles to children in need."
Over and above having the option to buy Virtual Santa Shoeboxes, visitors to the OneDayOnly.co.za website will get 67 minutes in which to make financial donations to Santa Shoebox Legacy.
This organisation aims to permanently uplift the lives of Santa Shoebox beneficiary children and their families by transforming early childhood development centres (ECDs) in rural and underprivileged communities throughout South Africa.
