The Santa Shoebox Project says that since its inception, it has touched the lives of 1 152 587 children by collecting and distributing personalised gifts filled with essential items and treats.

According to the project, this milestone speaks volumes about the power of community and compassion.

The project has indicated how individuals can become part of its endeavour:

Collection boxes

Individuals can pick up empty Santa Shoebox boxes from Somerset Mall's customer service desk until Saturday, 30 September.

They can then create a supporter profile on the Santa Shoebox Project website, where they can access lists of children's names, including their:
  • first name
  • age
  • gender, and
  • clothing size.

According to the project, following the profiles' requirements will ensure a personalised touch to the gift-giving experience.

Donation drop-Off

After filling the box with essential items (see the list below) and treats, individuals can return them to Somerset Mall's Customer Service Desk any time from Sunday, 1 October to Saturday, 28 October.

Each Santa Shoebox should contain the following items:
  • toothpaste
  • a toothbrush
  • a bar of soap
  • a washcloth
  • an outfit of clothing
  • educational supplies
  • sweets, and
  • a toy.

Tip: Consider including a reusable shopping bag for the child to carry their Shoebox home in.

To ensure the safety and quality of their gift, individuals can:
  • place all liquids, such as cosmetics or blow bubbles, in a ziplock bag to prevent leakage.
  • include extra batteries for battery-operated toys or opt for non-battery-operated alternatives.

Individuals are encouraged to join Somerset Mall and the Santa Shoebox Project in making a meaningful difference in the lives of children in need.

"Together, we can 'Share The Love' and create smiles that will warm hearts this holiday season," the duo concludes.
