The Shoprite Group has called on all high-performing tertiary students enrolled for degree studies in accounting, IT, agricultural sciences, biological sciences and more to apply for its comprehensive bursary programme for the 2024 and 2025 academic years.
Rachel-Leigh (25) from Germiston is currently a trainee accountant and on her way to becoming a chartered accountant after the group funded her bachelor of accounting degree and post-graduate studies at the University of Johannesburg.
According to the group, the bursary covers tuition and accommodation. Employment after graduation is guaranteed, giving beneficiaries a seamless entry into the business and allowing them to learn from the industry's top talent, experts and mentors.
It also provides the option to explore several career opportunities within the group. In addition, bursary holders receive a monthly grocery allowance and enjoy access to the Shoprite Employee Wellness programme, says the group.
The retailer is the largest private sector employer in South Africa and one of the top graduate employers in the country. In 2023, for the third consecutive year, the group was awarded the Gradstar Student's Choice Award for Employer of Choice in the retail sector. The group invests around R15-million toward the education of over 200 students each financial year.
Individuals are encouraged to apply for the 2024 / 2025 Shoprite bursary programme here.
