Digify Africa, a non-profit organisation based in Johannesburg that provides digital skills training, has announced a youth partnership with the international organisation Global Mentorship Initiative (GMI) to offer comprehensive mentorship programmes for its alumni across South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.
This collaboration aims to equip young people with the guidance, skills and networks necessary to excel in their careers and become active participants in the digital economy, according to the duo.
Through this partnership, participants in the programmes offered by Digify Africa will gain access to GMI's extensive network of experienced mentors from around the world. This is in line with Digify Africa's postgraduate programme, which is helping graduates with job placement.
According to the organisation, these mentors will provide:
- personalised support
- industry insights, and
- career advice to help young professionals navigate the challenges of the modern workplace.
Qhakaza Mohare, chief operating officer at Digify Africa, says, "We are thrilled to join forces with the Global Mentorship Initiative to offer our students this incredible opportunity. Mentorship plays a crucial role in shaping the careers of young professionals and, through this partnership, we aim to empower our graduates with the knowledge, skills and networks they need to thrive in the digital age."
Jon Browning, CEO and founder of the Global Mentorship Initiative, says, "Like Digify Africa, GMI is committed to bridging skill gaps and connecting young leaders with careers. GMI knows that addressing such huge challenges requires partnership. We are impressed by the incredible work Digify Africa is doing to upskill young people in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, and look forward to matching every one of their learners with a seasoned mentor to help them launch their careers."
GMI says that its mentorships guide thousands of refugees and students in over 100 countries to their first sustainable jobs. Browning co-created the Global Impact Sourcing Coalition in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation and BSR to encourage the hiring of youth in underserved communities and promote job creation.
Digify Africa and the Global Mentorship Initiative conclude that they are committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development. This partnership is a testament to their shared vision of creating a thriving digital ecosystem that nurtures talent and drives economic growth across Africa.
