The Restaurant Cricket League (RCL), a unique national cricket tournament in India that combines the spirit of sports with social responsibility, specifically focusing on food insecurity, sustainability and community wellness, has announced that its third season will kick off on Wednesday, 19 February in New Delhi.
The RCL says that it is supported by Incredible India, the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of India.
Themed 'Serving Change, Delivering Impact and Uniting Communities', RCL says that it aims to raise awareness about food security, reducing waste and facilitating the creation of food banks — issues that resonate deeply with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 of Zero Hunger.
By leveraging the power of cricket, the league says that it will not only raise awareness about these pressing issues but also drive collective action, encouraging individuals and businesses alike to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable society, RCL adds.
RCL 2025 will feature 15 matches, including eight league games, four quarterfinals, semifinals and a grand finale. The proceeds from the tournament raised through strategic partnerships with leading public and private sector organisations will be used to promote sustainable food practices and facilitate hunger alleviation. Turning every boundary into a step toward a better tomorrow, 100 nutritious meals will be thoughtfully provided to those in need for every 10 runs scored at RCL, the league adds.
Speaking on the occasion and reflecting on RCL's broader humanitarian and developmental goals, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Honourable Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), National Spokesperson, BJP and Honorary Chairman, Governing Council — RCL, says, "RCL is a platform that transcends sports to address critical societal challenges. As we look forward to RCL's 2025 season, we are expanding the league's mission to align with Honourable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi Ji's vision of an AatmaNirbhar Bharat and a developed nation by 2047. RCL will thus not only continue its focus on food security through partnerships with food banks but will also champion other initiatives that promote unity, wellness and sustainability."
Rudy adds, "An essential aspect of RCL 2025 will be celebrating culture, bringing together 16 states of India, each showcasing their unique local cuisines, culture and art. By naming the state teams after their respective iconic regional dishes, RCL aims to highlight the essence of each region, stimulate state tourism and promote India's rich diversity and foster unity."
To offer spectators and invitees a chance to immerse themselves in the flavours, art and heritage of each participating state, the concurrent RCL Taste and Tradition Festival will transform RCL into a family-friendly extravaganza, where sports enthusiasts, food lovers and culture aficionados converge to celebrate India's vast cultural tapestry, the league adds.
RCL says that to underscore the unifying power of cricket — a sport that brings together people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, RCL 2025 will feature players from 16 states representing the vast landscape of Indian hospitality, tourism, sports, entertainment, food and beverage, technology and other relevant industries. The on-ground excitement will be further amplified by the participation and attendance of senior union ministers, policymakers, notable cricketers, celebrities and influencers etc.
By integrating all these elements into a nationwide event, RCL 2025 will be a truly holistic initiative that honours tradition while driving change required for the inclusive development of our nation, RCL concludes.
