Illovo Sugar South Africa, the KwaZulu-Natal-based sugar manufacturer, has continued its support of the Tongaat community in the aftermath of the devastating tornado which struck the area earlier this year. Under its Thuthuka Nathi social impact programme, Illovo Sugar recently donated over 300 school uniforms and shoes to learners at Fairbreeze Secondary School.
This latest initiative follows an earlier donation of 800 uniforms to three local schools — Uthongathi Primary, Mbonisweni Primary and Nkosibomvu Secondary, says the company.
Ntombifuthi Ntanzi, Communications and Social Impact Manager at Illovo Sugar South Africa, says, "Our Thuthuka Nathi programme prioritises both education and disaster relief to strengthen the resilience of our communities. We hope these donations will support students who lost belongings in the tornado by enabling them to focus on their studies. We know that a uniform instils pride, enhances attendance and improves classroom concentration, creating a stronger learning environment."
Ntanzi concludes, "We believe that education is a powerful tool for change, and we are privileged to play a role in helping our communities recover and rebuild, empowering children to reach their full potential."
