The event honours seniors from different communities and aims to remind the public about the shared responsibility for South African heritage, and that only through joint efforts can it be fostered and preserved. Elders are treasures of our communities, carrying wisdom, resilience and stories that continue to inspire and shape us all, says the foundation.

"Caring for our seniors is perhaps the greatest responsibility we have. Those who have walked before us have given so much and made possible the life we all enjoy," says John Hoeven.

Elders are the keepers of wisdom, resilience and memory. They are the storytellers, the culture bearers and the quiet strength behind every community. Yet too often, their voices go unheard in a fast-changing world. This Heritage Month, the Mustadafin Foundation aism to turn the spotlight onto these members of society, celebrating the seniors who continue to inspire and shape the community, adds the foundation.

On Sunday, 21 September, Mustadafin Foundation welcomes 150 seniors from Khayelitsha, Hanover Park, Manenberg, Delft, Tafelsig and Bridgetown to its head office in Bridgetown for a day filled with music, laughter and connection. The celebration aims to reminds everyone of the shared responsibility to protect and nurture our heritage, and that it can only be truly fostered and preserved through joint efforts, says the foundation.

A festive braai is served, while the Broadway Cultural Group and Innie Kaap Cultural Group fills the air with performances that celebrate Cape heritage and brings generations together, adds the foundation.

"Heritage lives in our elders," says Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, Director of Mustadafin Foundation. "They are the gems of our communities, carriers of wisdom, strength and resilience. Honouring them is not only about looking back, it is also about learning how to build a stronger, more compassionate future. At Mustadafin, we believe that when we value our seniors, we value ourselves."

The celebration reflects Mustadafin's ongoing commitment to caring for vulnerable groups, with a special focus on seniors whose contributions often go unrecognised in a fast-changing society, adds the foundation.

The Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to donors and partners, including Birkett Sheep, Broadway Cultural Band, Creative Kids Educare, Gatti's Ice Cream, Innie Kaap, Springbok Deli and Woolworths South Africa, for making the day possible. Their generosity ensures that the event is not just a gathering, but a moment of dignity and joy for the elders who attend, concludes the foundation.
