Rosebank Mall's 5km Pink Run, which has taken place on Saturday, 1 November, has drawn more than 3 000 participants, raising R50 000 for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
The annual charity event transforms Bath Avenue as runners, walkers and supporters come together for a cause that aims to touch countless South African families, says the mall.
From families with young children to seasoned athletes, the turnout aims to demonstrate the community's commitment to supporting cancer research, prevention and patient care. Participants run, walk and jog in honour of loved ones currently battling cancer, those who have overcome it and in memory of those lost to the disease, adds the mall.
"Seeing over 3 000 people come together on a Saturday morning shows the incredible heart of our community," says Angelisa Gengan, Marketing Manager of Rosebank Mall. "Every person who participated made a tangible difference to CANSA's vital work. The energy and solidarity on display reminded us why this event matters so much to so many people."
Community Support Makes it Happen
Rosebank Mall extends special thanks to the Run Zone Team, saying their dedication and expertise prove invaluable in organising and executing the event. Their behind-the-scenes work aims to ensure participants enjoyed a smooth, well-managed experience from registration through to the finish line, says the mall.
The event also benefits from sponsor support. Garmin contributes two Garmin Forerunner 265s Light Pink watches for a social media giveaway competition, giving ticket purchasers the chance to win premium fitness technology. Pick n Pay supports participants by providing refreshments, ensuring runners stay hydrated throughout the morning, adds the mall.
"The response from our participants, sponsors and the Run Zone Team made this event truly special," adds Gengan. "It takes an entire community working together to create something meaningful, and that's exactly what happened on the first of November."
Making Every Step Count
The Pink Run continues its aim to serve as a powerful reminder that community action can drive real change. By showing up, participating and spreading awareness, the 3 000 attendees contributed to a larger movement working towards better outcomes for cancer patients across South Africa, says the mall.
The funds raised will help CANSA continue providing essential services to those affected by cancer whilst advancing research that could save lives in the future. For many participants, the event offers a meaningful way to turn personal experiences with cancer into positive action, adds the mall.
"We thank every single participant who made the 2025 Pink Run such a success," says Gengan. "This event reinforces our commitment to community engagement and supporting causes that truly matter to the people of Johannesburg."
