Miya is the winner of a 6m / 20ft Castrol GTX container workshop, complete with signage and accessories, in the Stand a Chance to Win with All-New GTX competition, which was introduced earlier this year with the launch of new GTX variants, says Castrol.

More than just a campaign prize, this initiative is a direct investment into community development, economic participation, and job creation within South Africa's informal automotive sector, adds Castrol.

Driving Community Upliftment Through the Power of Opportunity

Informal mechanics play a vital role in keeping South Africans moving, especially in townships and rural communities where access to formal automotive workshops remains limited. Yet, these skilled entrepreneurs often operate without proper infrastructure, compromising both safety and long-term business growth, says Castrol.

The Castrol GTX container workshop initiative aims to improve that. By providing a safe, fully equipped, professional workspace, Castrol will help to empower Miya to:

  • expand services
  • earn a stable and sustainable income
  • create employment for young apprentices, and
  • contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

According to Miya, winning the prize is nothing short of lifechanging for him and his family, "It makes me believe in myself and in opportunities for us as entrepreneurs. It motivates me to keep on pushing and I am so grateful to Castrol for choosing me as the winner of this competition."

"Mechanics are the backbone of the automotive ecosystem. When we invest in them, we invest in families, communities and local economies," says Pooja Desai, Brand and Communications Manager, Southern Africa. "This initiative reflects Castrol's commitment to supporting grassroots entrepreneurship and enabling South Africans to thrive."
