Kedibone Mulaudzi to host a Charity Comedy show in Protea Glen
Publicity 201
In recognition of the 16 Days of Activism against woman and child abuse, seasoned comedian and Daily Sun TV presenter and businessman Kedibone Mulaudzi will be putting smiles on the faces of those less fortunate in Soweto.
Mulaudzi, who is no stranger to poverty given his difficult township upbringing, feels it's time he ploughed back by helping the children of Protea Glen, his hometown. He will be hosting a Charity Comedy Show (in partnership with friends) at the Stekerniko cinema in Maponya Mall on Thursday, 13 December. The line-up for the show will feature Mulaudzi and his comedic friends and the SA Comedy Academy graduates. The proceeds from this event will be used to assist the Lufuno Education for Life, a Non-Governmental Organisation housing orphaned children and providing support to those less fortunate.
Lufuno Education for Life currently helps over 250 children from in and around the Protea Glen area by providing them with shelter and meals, to name just two. But the number of the children it can afford to help has almost halved from the plus-450 youngsters who initially relied on Lufuno for assistance. This decline is mainly as a result dried-up funds/donations and/or sponsorship to the NGO. So with Christmas approaching, Mulaudzi?'s on a mission to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
"It would be nice to make a memorable Christmas for the kids because most of them don't have anything. Toys, clothes and food would really go a long way for them. But we're hoping to reach out to other major institutions to come on board and assist us in helping all this kids," says Mulaudzi. "I for one have gone to bed without food a couple of times and I understand the agony of going through something like that. To me, the 16 Days of Activism against women and children campaign, means that we must do all we can to help orphans and kids that need our help. To me talent is useless if it is only used to self-enrich the owner of the talent. Let's use it to help the needy; I think that's why God blessed us with the talent in the first place"
"I will be the happiest guy if the retail shops like Pick 'n Pay, Shoprite, clothing and toys shops in and around Protea Glen can please donate food, clothes and toys to the kids. And also people that will come to the comedy charity show to please bring non-perishable food, clothes for kids, blankets and toys. It won't be a Merry Christmas if the kids and orphans at Lufuno Orphanage and other Childrens Homes nationwide will go through Christmas without food and toys. Let's please come to the comedy show and support," said Mulaudzi.
He aims to help Lufuno through food parcels, clothes and toys for the children for the festive season. One way he can do this is by doing what he knows best and that's making comedy lovers happy so they can help him put smiles on the children of Lufuno.
If anyone would like to assist in this initiative, grab a ticket for the Charity Comedy Show at CompuTicket from as little as R100. If one can't make their way to the nearest Computicket outlet, watch out for door-to-door ticket sales by youngsters around Soweto. The door-to-door sales approach is also another way in which Molaudzi's doing his bit to alleviate the scourge of poverty as those selling the tickets will be paid for their labour.
Molaudzi (and friends) hope to raise awareness about the NGO through the Thursday, 13 December show. They want to help it find funding and sponsorships. Currently Lufuno is housed at the Protea Glen Hall and it does not have its own facilities to help the children. Mildred Mashini who works for the NGO says the organization, which was started 14 years ago, is struggling to help all the children in the township.
Mashini says that the kids who come to the shelter get a meal a day and they assist them with getting grants to get school uniform.
So the December 13th Kedibone Molaudzi & Friends Charity Comedy Show is just another effort by Molaudzi to help the youngsters of Soweto.
The show is another effort by Mulaudzi to help the youngsters of Soweto. Mulaudzi is heavily involved in the development of talent in Soweto. This is not the first time Mulaudzi is giving to the community, he has been doing that for at least 10 years through the SA Comedy Academy, previously known as The Nubreed School of Comedy. He is currently helping aspiring comedians to make their mark in the industry through The SA Comedy Academy a free institution that give aspiring comedians the skills and know-hows to make it in the comedy industry. Most of the industry's hot comedy talent are graduates from the SA Comedy Academy.
This year's comedy graduates will be performing at the Soweto Comedy Festival in Vaal Vereeniging Civic Theatre on Friday, 14 December and the show will be supported by Kedibone Muladzi, Mashabela Galane, Pule Lekgowa (Strictly Vernac), RoniModimola (Pure Monate), SkhuluMayisa (Comedian from Vaal) and more.
