Reach For A Dream have launched their Slipper Day website, which allows all South Africans to easily purchase their Slipper Day sticker so they can wear their slippers on Friday, 7 August. All the proceeds raised will go to making the dreams of children with life-threatening diseases a reality.
These R10 stickers can be bought at any Wimpy or using the e-commerce twibbon on the new site. Wearing the sticker on Slipper Day also entitles wearers a free cup of Wimpy coffee.
Bronwyn Feldwick-Davis, the marketing and communications manager for the Reach For A Dream Foundation welcomed guests to the launch held yesterday in Johannesburg. The Slipper Day video from 2014 was played and featured local celebrities DJ fresh, Ashley Hayden and Hub Mboya who are all supporters of Newsclip pro bono client, Reach For A Dream. In the video Mboya explained; “It’s about joy, it’s about making a difference and making the world a better place.”
“Last year stickers sold through Wimpy outlets resulted in just over R1.1-million in funds for Reach For A Dream and this year we would like to sell even more stickers to our loyal customers to further aid this non-profit organisation”, says Wimpy Brand Manager Karabo Morudu. “At Wimpy we are all about families and aiding in making seriously ill children’s dreams come true, it's a privilege for us as a group.”
In total Reach For A Dream raised R2.66-million in 2014. This year they aim to raise R4-million to make the dreams of sick children come true. No dream is too small or too big, and range from children wanting to see the ocean for the first time, taking a drive in a Ferrari, a flight in a helicopter, becoming a doctor for the day or even visiting Disney World.
Slipper Day first started in Durban as, at the time, Reach For A Dream believed “only people in Durban would wear their slippers to work”, but they were proved wrong as it took off in Johannesburg too. In 2014, Slipper Day trended on Twitter, and now, with the launch of the website, 2015 is set to be even bigger and better.
“All funds and proceeds raised through our Slipper Day campaign will help put a smile on the faces of the foundation’s ‘Dream Children',” says Feldwick-Davis. “Reach For A Dream prides itself on the countless children who have benefitted through the generous support of companies such as Wimpy.”
The 2015 theme, ‘Don’t let their dreams disappear’, encourages those who can to help a make child’s dream come true. Buy your R10 sticker from a Wimpy between Wednesday, 1 July and Friday, 7 August or online.
