Thankfully, our challenge at hand is not killing a king on behalf of a ghost … but deciding on social posts can be just as terrifying, because how much following do you need to do in order to get followed?

media update's Robyn du Preez has a quick-sticks guide on how to navigate this here:

First things first: What are trending topics?

Trending topics refer to subjects or events on social media that have quickly picked up significant traction on these digital platforms.

Because of how quickly it gains reach, trends are a type of content that has gained popularity with various social media groups.

Social networks will search the top-performing hashtags that are currently being used on platforms and then will include them in a 'trending' segment.

You should join in on the trend when:

  • it is relevant to your page
  • it's a current trend and is still on the rise
  • you can create content that reflects both the trend as well as your brand in an authentic manner, and
  • the purpose behind it resonates with your identity.

You should give the trend a pass when:

  • the trend has already passed, and
  • the content is not appropriate for your brand to associate with.
