Being heard above
one billion users worldwide is going to take some trial and error.
However, the
good news is that with over
one billion videos being watched daily and
45 hours being watched monthly, we can help
you to break into the trending barriers.
So start trending with Jané Rossouw from media update as we discuss five tips and tricks of TikTok:
1. Use the correct specs
Naturally, if you want to
be the best you need to
use the best (or
correct specifications) for the platform you are posting on. And TikTok users are no different when it comes to content specifications.
So, to start on the right foot, use these specifications:
- .mp4., .mov, mpeg, .3pg and avi. video file types
- always use vertical videos
- have captions for your videos
- videos can be from three to 60 seconds, but TikTok recommends videos to be nine to 15 seconds, and
- video dimensions should be 1080 x 1920.
And if you want to be trending, then
stay relevant and up-to-date with trending audio and hashtags. If you are struggling to stay relevant (or maybe you just don't know where to find those cool audios) then check out

2. Keep videos short and engaging
The recommended time for TikTok videos is between
nine and 15 seconds — a short period that is enough to grab, hold and convince a watcher.
However, you have an even shorter timespan (the first three seconds to be exact) to catch your viewers' attention before they scroll past —
talk about right off the mark! To grab your viewers' attention, you should skip the long introduction and
head straight to the point of your content. Clearly
state the purpose of the video and dive right into whatever you want to make known to viewers.
3. Post every day
The TikTok algorithm favours frequent posters, so the more
frequent and consistent your posts are the more the algorithm favours your content. On top of cracking the code on algorithms, it also helps to stay in the minds of your audience.
By posting consistently, you are also keeping your audience members engaged and even creating an expectation for them to see your content when they open the platform.
A good thing to remember if you don't always have content lined up is to keep the conversation going. By
keeping the conversation going you are able to see which content:
- performs well with your viewers
- gets people talking, and
- gets shared.
4. Create content that you are passionate about
Content created with passion just performs better, regardless of which social platform you are creating for.
Passion equals unique ideas and creative content, which hopefully — if you are following these tips — engages with your viewers.
Because you need constant content to publish, it also helps if you have a lot to say about the topic and if you enjoy what you create. This makes your work
enjoyable,
fun and
creative!
Passion creation can also lead you to the digital doorstep of a fellow creator who you might 'stitch' or collaborate with. This means you have two viewer demographics to choose from and the possibility to learn new skills or info.
5. Remember TikTok is a business
Just because TikTok is a social platform does
not mean that business does not mix with pleasure. Remember,
TikTok is a business, and businesses want people to come back for more.
TikTok wants watchers to stay on the platform
as long as possible. So if you as a content creator
reach a high video completion rate, lots of comments in the comment section and high shares and likes then you are doing a fantastic job so far!
But what does all of this mean and how can you keep track?
Monitoring TikTok! Monitoring or analysing how your content is performing is the sweet spot in the social biz.
