We've all seen brands such as Duolingo and Surreal Cereal be completely unhinged on their social media platforms  — and it works because it is a social media strategy that works for those brands.

However, we can't all go off the rails on social media because it just won't be authentic, but if you are looking to mix in a bit of fun in your social media content we know how!

Read on as media update's Saads Abrahams explains how to add fun to your B2B social media content.

Strategically Mix Your Content

Brands do not need to make every post funny or entertaining. Sometimes your audience wants to be entertained however, you are still a brand, which means that when people come to your pages, they also want information or brand updates.

Make a list of the types of content you want to post such as:

Fun content:

  • memes
  • polls, and
  • trends.

Informative content:

  • infographics
  • tips, and
  • tutorials.

Community-focused content:

  • testimonials
  • Q&As, and
  • going live.

Define a Tone Of Voice (TOV)

Give your brand a face — are they a teacher, Kevin Hart, or the girl next door?

Once you've given your brand a personality, you can establish its TOV and keep it consistent throughout all of your posts.

Create a TOV Template

A TOV template is basically a cheat sheet for staying consistent with your chosen brand voice. In your template add:

  • voice traits (e.g. soft spoken but funny)
  • humour style (e.g. sarcastic / dry humour)
  • dos (e.g. casual and simple language), and
  • don'ts (e.g. use technical terms or formal language).

Grow and Evolve Your Voice

Your tone for your brand is allowed to evolve with time — memes may work today but in a couple of months, people may not use them anymore.

So, don't be afraid to change with the times, or if something is not working for you anymore.
