If you thought the auto play videos where hi-tech, hold onto your keyboard, because soon Facebook profiles are going to get even more animated. In an official announcement, the social media giant said they’re soon to roll out temporary profile pictures which will work on timers, the addition of one-line bios in the information section of your profile and the ability to use animated GIFs as profile pictures.

Selfies are about to get taken to the next level.

#DrugBust, drama and speculation on stardom

On Monday, Twitter was abuzz after it was reported that a South African ‘actress’ was caught with R4.6-million worth of drugs in her luggage at OR Tambo airport. #GuessTheActress became a highly amusing handle as people from around the country postulated who the starlet might be; and no one was safe, even Isidingo’s Ma Agnes was pulled into questioning by the Twitteratti. By Wednesday, the guessing game came to an end when it was announced that the actress was, in fact, an extra who has appeared on a few local soaps.

Seems the #GuessTheActress and #Drugbust hashtags may end up being the accused, Ottilia Mmatjatji Malatji’s most serious shot in the spotlight.

Noah builds a social media arc

On Tuesday, South African funny man Trevor Noah hosted his maiden The Daily Show, taking over from legendary John Oliver. Twitter, especially locally, was in serious support of Noah, with the hashtags #TDSTrevorNoah, #TrevorDay and #DailyShow all in high circulation. Good on you, Daywalker.

No one is over the moon

If you weren’t up between the ungodly hours of 03:00 and 04:00 on Monday morning to see the Super-Harvest Blood Moon, social media had your back. Amateur and professional pictures alike lit up social media with pictures of the eclipse. NASA’s tweet of the crimson orb received over 14 000 retweets and 12 000 favourites.

I mean, why would we get out of bed to see something that won't be repeated until 2033 anyway?

The president is on hold

A picture from the 70^th UN General Assembly had South Africans, especially, snorting and skinnering about our president’s manners. Zuma is pictured sitting down with his phone attached to his ear while @POTUS Barack Obama stands in front, and above him, with Zuma’s hand locked in a shake. The question is, who was Zuma chatting to that took preference over the most powerful man in the world? A conference call with his wives perhaps?

Dissed and dismissed

Cassper Nyovest has hit AKA back with a diss track of his own after AKA slated his fellow rappers in the song Composure which dropped earlier in September. Nyovest released Dust2Dust this morning and Twitter is going insane quoting lines and either slating or rating the comeback.
